All the majesty of Trine is present, though there are a few changes that are definitely worth giving attention to. So, for anybody who is unaware, Trine 2 is the sequel to Finnish developer Frozenbyte's 2009 side-scrolling fantasy puzzle platformer, which refines and continues to build what I suppose I should be calling the "Trine franchise". If somebody told me six months ago that I'd ever play a game as beautiful as Trine, I would have scoffed, and yet here I am, playing its sequel - a game that takes its astoundingly high production values and raises the bar to unimaginable new heights.

There are still secret treasure chests, but this time around they only contain indifferent little rhymes, and that's hardly any reward. What I miss most is the exploration that used to reward curious adventurers with bonus objects that made our life a little easier. However, I'm not crazy about the decision to favour puzzles over combat, and I felt the balance was better in the first game. As far as the visual design goes Trine 2 is best in class as far as 2D adventures go. Everything about the look just radiates adventure and gives you plenty of motivation to see what the next level looks like.

There were several times where I just had to stop playing for a few seconds just to really take in all the beautiful details and lighting effects.

But before you get into the puzzles and co-operative elements of the game you are sure to enjoy the visual delights Trine 2 offers.
